(00:00) the economic crisis was brought on by former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and you were his adviser i think I think you would find people did not create that problem i I I certainly Hey nobody in Canada created that problem wow [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] what mark Carney had a press conference in Edmonton yesterday where he continued to copy Pierre Polyv’s campaign platform however word on the street is that it did not go well at all let’s take a look prime Minister thanks for taking my
(00:55) question and welcome to Edmonton and uh James from the Western Standard uh you recently Sorry about the microphone yeah no problem i’m a pretty tall guy um you’ve not been elected in a federal election yet and you recently flew to Europe on government widebody jet at the expense of at least half a million dollars so the question I have for you today um and maybe I’ll say this before I ask the question these people around you all paid for that flight and you’ve not been elected yet so will you commit to refunding these taxpayers for that
(01:27) flight uh well it’s an interesting question uh way of framing it uh look and it I’m going to go back to uh I’m going to allude to the question that was asked previously by Mr staples from uh from the journal uh and the situation that we’re in as a country uh which is uh we are in an economic crisis that’s brought on sorry I’m going to answer the question uh brought on by uh the tariffs that have been put on Canada actual and perspective one of the challenges the economic crisis was brought on by former prime minister Justin Trudeau and you
(02:03) were his adviser I think I think you would find people did not create that problem wow kudos Western Standard good job that was amazing um you know and and it I don’t want to say this of Western Standard because I know that they’ve been fighting hard against the Liberals this whole time but it’s about time that the world sees these journalists standing up to the Liberal government because they’re the voice of Canadians right not all of us are there to be able to ask these questions of our elected leaders or in this case
(02:41) unelected leader but you know kudos to them for asking the hard questions and not letting them weasle out of it the other thing I’ll say about the um the Western Standard is they’re you know they they lean to the right obviously but they’re they’re honest about certain things like when when the C18 ban came out um where Meta banned all news from Facebook that’s where it became really blatant to us how how deep the the media machine went because all you saw on CTV and CBC was ads about oh well you know we’ve been
(03:23) banned from Facebook because of you know the big bad billionaires but the western standard the western standard they were saying that they are uh their media was being uh banned from Facebook because of the federal government legislation so they were actually being very very honest about it so um you know just a couple of couple of accolades I want to throw at the Western Standard for this and and as Tony said this is the journalism that is needed because politicians this is this is where politicians get to run a muck and they
(03:56) think that they can you know say whatever they want and do whatever they want and the journalists have to be able to be call it forthright and and stand up and say “No you’re not answering my question i’m not going to let you get away with this.” Right and which liberal minister was it was it Arieani that had said essentially like you guys are on our payroll you’ll you’ll ask questions we want and we’ll answer what we want kind of thing like that’s not a direct quote obviously but it it wasn’t him it was uh it was one of the other guys but
(04:23) it it doesn’t still it was it it was a minister was it not if I’m not misremembering he he he may have been in cabinet i I can’t I can’t recall point being one of the Liberal MPs had made a comment to that effect correct at one of the mainstream journalists because they think well you know we pay your salary therefore we dictate what you do that’s not how it is citizens are taking the media back and we know that Mark Carney doesn’t like being challenged so let’s see how this plays out i I certainly Hey nobody in Canada
(04:58) created that problem nobody in Canada created that problem wow what nobody in Canada it wasn’t the reckless Liberal spending no it wasn’t Trudeau doubling the deficit trudeau and his Liberal Party in 9 years spent more than all of the other prime ministers combined going all the way back to 1867 but you know it wasn’t anybody in Canada that did this you know part of this is making me think of for those of you who are nerdy like me the comic book Watchmen where everybody’s fighting everybody’s at each other’s throats war
(05:38) is imminent and they create this external force and then all of a sudden that’s what everybody is focused on attacking that’s what it feels like the Liberals are doing they’re they’re focused on this problem with the United States instead of the problems within Canada and you know what um this is brilliant because now now you’re basically you’re gonna because he’s come out and said this now you’re essentially going to have Mark Carney defending Justin Trudeau canadians don’t like Justin Trudeau no we don’t and this this right
(06:12) here is proof that you can change the guy at the top but it’s the same party with the same policies except for the policies that they steal from Pierre Paul you you mark mark mark my words the the conservatives are going to be driving right through this hole that uh that Carney is opening right here nobody okay so nobody was here to drastically increase immigration by like you know 200% oh okay i guess nobody was here to do that nobody increased taxes on everybody oh I guess nobody was was here to do that nobody increased the carbon
(06:46) tax you know a implement it and b increased it like four or five times and want to increase it four or five times more no no no it was nobody in the country it must have been Donald Trump even when he wasn’t in office or you know what maybe Justin Trudeau was outside the country when he when he did all this because this this is insanity the US government has decided to put tariffs on all of its closest allies all of its closest allies i wouldn’t for a moment suggest that anyone in Canada is the cause of this what our
(07:17) responsibility is is to take action to react to a different world that we’re in and part of the way we do that is is we build out new partnerships new opportunities including opportunities and I’m going to give you a specific one and then I don’t know if you have one more followup but I’ll give you a specific example it goes to my previous answer something I also discussed with the premier this morning uh which is Canada has many advantages and one of them is in critical metals and minerals one of the issues is how
(07:51) are we going to develop the trade routes and the trade corridors rapidly in order to export uh those critical metals and minerals and who are our clients for that who are customers do we only have one customer to the south of us the customer that’s attacking us that doesn’t respect the trade agreements that they signed or should we develop new customers new customers in Europe what’s required if I may what’s required for those new customers is to build out trade corridors and infrastructure including what I referenced in my previous answer and
(08:27) discussed with the premier is the potential uh to go north go to new deep water ports churchill as an example Gray’s uh Grey’s Point in Nunovet as another and that creates a whole new set of opportunities for Albertans as a whole for people across the country uh for these uh hardworking people around me and those like them in the trades and that’s what my my job is i’ll take that as a no then no you’ll take that as a very comprehensive answer to your question wow that is the real Mark Carney right there yeah yeah you know again Pierre
(09:04) does I don’t want to say snap at the journalist but he will put them on the back foot when they start off from a ridiculous premise that is really the only time you see him doing that this is an accurate premise it cost half a million dollars for Canadians to send that man that unelected prime minister to Europe so that he could do what do do something that he couldn’t do over the phone or over Zoom well not only that something that he shouldn’t be doing at all right he does not have a mandate because he is not elected one of the concepts and the
(09:42) convention of a caretaker prime minister this is what Mark Carney is so a caretaker prime minister is somebody who takes over as prime minister who does not have a mandate and the expectation is they literally keep the seat warm until they do have a mandate they typically don’t sign executive orders or or recommendations for orders and council they don’t go gallivanting on diplomatic missions unless it’s already arranged they don’t start anything new until they actually get a new mandate but here’s Mark Carney just okay off I
(10:18) go time to uh time to convince everybody I’m a leader now here’s the important part and you may want to impress this upon your family and friends who are considering voting liberal journalists are our voice to the politicians because we can’t all be there to ask these kinds of questions so you see the absolute disdain with which Mark Carney speaks to them what does that mean how does he feel about us well and the journalist so the journalist if you break it down says um we’re in an affordability crisis and you’re not
(10:56) really you know you don’t have a mandate and you decide to take off and spend a half million dollars of our money to go to Europe um are you going to be paying the taxpayers you know back that money and then he goes on this long answer and then the journalist says okay so I take that that’s a no and then Mark Carney says “No you’ll take that as a comprehensive answer to your question.
(11:17) ” Right wow this is how he feels about Canadians it’s obvious that he doesn’t care enough to give the journalist a proper answer because again the journalists are asking the questions on behalf of all of us so he doesn’t care enough to give the journalists proper answers what does he think about the rest of us so one thing that it’s disappointing that the reporters didn’t ask him on is in his speech that was about 12 minutes long that we’re not going to show you thank goodness he decided to announce that he’s going to look at taking the GST off
(11:56) of new homes where have I heard that before where has he heard everything before do you know we we received a lot of comments early on when we were starting Northern Perspective that why isn’t Pierre releasing his platform this is exactly why and it makes me wonder if the Liberals tactic is to copy as much of the Conservatives platform as they can so that Canadians are left going “Well they’re both promising the same thing i’ll just vote for the party that’s already in power.
(12:26) ” The devil I know right well and I think this is why Pierre is pushing the boundary on some of the things that he’s announcing because one of the things that Pierre announced recently is he’s going to ensure that the industrial carbon tax is gone that’s one of his commitments carney will never ever do that he’s too much of an environmentalist right so this is where I think Pierre is going to be leaning into the things that Carney won’t do right you know the things that will actually fix the country and um one of the things that Pierre has
(13:02) been um launching the last couple of days that we’ve seen is messaging around development and extraction of our resources looking at the ring of fire and looking at how he’s actually going to get these things approved and it’s brilliant it’s brilliant we’re we’re probably going to do a video on that um but he’s leaning into things that P that Carney his ideology won’t let him go there so but Tony’s right this is why Pierre hasn’t been specific but as of next week you’re going to you’re you’re going to see a lot more specifics coming from the
(13:44) conservative platform and one thing that I was worry worried about but that worry is now going down is had the Conservatives essentially maxed out their messaging had they maxed out what they were going to be promising and in talking to somebody that I was doorn-ning with who’d worked on many many campaigns he had said traditionally the problem with the Conservative party is they start really really strong and they throw everything that they have out of the gate but then they have nothing left for the finish so this was the wonder of Pier kind of
(14:23) stepping back during the provincial election during the Liberal leadership race and kind of having the party take a breath and making sure that they have enough left in the tank to get them over the finish line right and he’s not fighting against the messages of both the Ontario provincial election as well as the Liberal leadership race now the Conservatives are going to be in the spotlight right so um based on the messaging that he has started this week and looks really good really positive and is exactly the the I think the
(14:54) bounce that he needs where he’s you know not going gung-ho criticizing Carney there’s enough criticism there but the balance and the remainder of of the message which is the vast majority of it is filled with hope filled with promise and makes me want to vote for him in the next election [Music]
