Mark Carney brushes off growing budget backlash, but the Conservatives won’t let it slide. A furious call for an Elections Canada investigation just shook Parliament. What’s Ottawa hiding?
Video Transcript:
Well, yesterday was entertaining. We had question period and Mark Carney was in the mix in question period as he had gotten back from his meeting with premieres and well people all had their eyes on this specific moment because well the day before as we talked about yesterday the conservatives had passed a motion in the house with all opposing parties getting on board saying we need a budget now. And again it was just a motion. It was symbolic in a lot of cases to signal to the governing party saying, “Hey, if you try to pass this $486 billion bill without tableabling a budget, then you’re running the risk you’re running the risk of a non-confidence vote coming your way.” It was very fascinating. Again, I discussed it yesterday and we’ll get into that. And then secondly, the block wall is getting more serious about the scenario of what happened around Terbone. And they’ve gone to the Supreme Court of Canada to discuss what’s going on with Elections Canada and are now demanding an investigation into Elections Canada as a whole. Oh boy, it’s only getting more interesting. Welcome to the Elevate Podcast. I’m your host, Josh. I’m so grateful to be back be back on with you once again. It’s fascinating. It’s great. It’s a Wednesday. What can I say? It’s a beautiful time to be alive. Regardless of how you feel about politics, regardless of how you feel about your life, you know what? You’re breathing. You’re living. And I don’t care what the liberals say. Screw made. Screw what they have to say. It’s great to be alive, baby. If you get any value of the show, please take the time to like, share, and subscribe. Really helps us to grow. Helps us get another voice out there and helps give another side to the conversation that the mainstream media simply doesn’t give you. Now, let’s get in the first story, shall we? Yesterday was interesting because all the talk, especially our show, all the talk was, “Wow, it only took two weeks for the Liberals to lose their first vote. Sure, it wasn’t a non-confidence vote. Sure, it wasn’t legally binding, but however, it was a motion that the Liberals lost, which is pretty historic in a lot of ways because it just indicates that Parliament’s not really on the Liberal side right now. As much as Carney’s gotten out there saying, “Oh, don’t worry. We’re going to plan this. We’re going to do that. We’re going to make this. We are going to make Canada great again. No, I’m just kidding. No, no, he pretty much said that. He’s pretty much said that without saying that, hasn’t he? And so that’s what’s going on in politics at this point. And it’s leaving people wondering, hey, what are you going to do? Can we make something happen? And then, well, the Liberals said, we’re not going to be tailing a budget at all this year. And then it turned into, okay, we’ll table a budget not in the fall. And then they said, can we have $486 billion spending, please? Thank you. without any type of accountability or transparency on it. We just want the money. Please just give us the money so we can spend it how we want to spend it cuz it’s me, Mark Carney. We’re going to say it’s me, Mark Carney. I just need the money. I just need the money. And so this left conservatives being like, “Uh, no. I we saw what your predecessor did. We saw what you advised your predecessor to do beforehand. So, no, please just show us a budget and we can then have a conversation about this and we’ll pass it. But just show us the budget. We just want to know what our current deficit’s at. We just want to know where where this money is going and we want to know if you have a plan for where this money is going to go. Please, we are just interested. And so this was a big flex in a lot of ways. It was more so a reminder to the Liberal governing party that they don’t have a majority. As much as they’ve been out in public, as much as they’ve been out in the media saying, “We have a mandate. We are going to do great things for Canada. We got this. We’re going to take care of Canada.” They are acting as if they have a majority. And this was a quick check by the NDP. This was a quick check by the blockqua. This is a quick check by the Green Party. This was a quick check by the Conservatives saying, “No, no, no, no. This is a minority government here. Mark Carney, do not forget that we need to be on board with whatever it is you want to do.” And we all voted yesterday saying, “You need to table a budget immediately.” And well, this was brought to the question period yesterday. And there was a lot of back and forth from all different MPs around the same issue. But we picked out two minutes that kind of encapsulated everything about yesterday and Mark Carney’s attitude towards the whole thing. Take a watch. $73 billion spent while parliament was shut down by this government. A spending package of half a trillion with a record $26 billion for liberal friendly consultants like McKenzie and no oversight or scrutiny from Parliament. Well, this house has had enough. Last night, the House passed a conservative motion calling on the prime minister to table a spring budget. Will the prime minister respect the will of parliament and table a budget immediately so Canadians in this parliament can have the transparency we deserve? Mr. Speaker, we take note take note of last night’s motion. But what Canadians deserve, what Canadians deserve, what Canadian provinces deserves is a healthc care transfer. It’s a transfer for child care. There’s a transfer for dental care. There’s a transfer to support affordability. That’s what’s in the main estimates and we expect the support of members opposite. Yes, sir. We’ll stop there for two seconds. So Mark Carney, you see there that he doesn’t actually answer the question this welcome to our culture here in parliament. Welcome to how things operate and have operated here for a long time. You don’t ever answer the question. You always just kind of deflect, defer, and talk about something else. And that’s what Markin did here. um he’s been clearly coached on how to do that. The question was, we saw where you’ve put money, specifically going to the likes of McKenzie, uh the likes of the Grant Thornton of the world, the likes of all these different consultants. We want to know where this money is going to go, this half a trillion dollars worth of spending. Please let us know. Will you give us a budget? And Mark Curry said, “What people deserve is they deserve the health transfer. They deserve a transfer for dental, a transfer for child care, a transfer for this, a transfer for that. We just want to support Canadians. You can get that in the main estimates and that’s what we’re going to do. Again, it’s this whole idea that the Liberals do and Mark Carney is playing perfectly into it is we’re not going to talk about the budget. We acknowledge what you guys did yesterday. We acknowledge that that happened, but I don’t care. I just want the half a trillion dollars and we’re going to move forward with it. So, are you gonna be a bad guy and not going to give the transfers in healthcare? You’re not going to give the transfers to child care? You’re not going to give the transfers to dental care? Are you not are you going to be a bad boy and you’re going to prevent us from doing this? They’re already laying the groundwork to again, this is how politics works. This is how things operate in Canada is to set the narrative that they are the good guys, that they are so thoughtful, and this is all they’re trying to do. And the big bad conservatives in the rest of parliament need to get on board cuz all they just want to do is keep child care away from people. That’s how this operates. And so, well, the conservative here made sure to fall with Mark Carney on it. And well, the last half this is exactly how you’d expect it to go. The right honorable member for Edmonton West. Mr. Speaker, I realize he’s new here, but all those things would be in a budget. He’d be singing one. That’s a good one. That was a good one. Mr. Speaker, this year alone, this government is going to spend a staggering $26 billion on highric liberal friendly consultants. An eyewatering $1,400 for every Canadian family. They’ll present no budget, no departmental plans, and zero transparency. They won’t even stand in this house and tell Canadians what the deficit will be. this year. Will the Liberals come clean, table the spring budget as this house has demanded? The right honorable prime minister. Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I will speak I will speak softly. Unlike the member opposite, I know the difference between a main estimate and a budget here. And unlike the unlike the members opposite, we know how to grow this economy without spending money. And that’s why we’re proposing that’s why we’re proposing a bill to build one Canadian economy out of 13 and all the provinces and Quebec agree. Oh man, that was a wild moment in question period yesterday. Oh gosh, it was good. Unlike the members opposite, we know how to grow this economy without spending money. And yes, that is like liberal gaslighting to a tea. Political gaslighting to a tea. It was quite frankly, it was masterful to watch that happen. And him actually try to do that in question period. Like you, we know how to grow the economy without spending money. We’re just the ones asking for half a trillion dollars without a budget. But unlike you, sir, there’s a difference between main estimates and a budget. And luckily, I know the difference. And well, you don’t. And this is how Mark plays the game. This is how liberals are going to be playing the game moving forward. This is how politics is going to work between the conservative side and liberal side is Mark Carney has made sure to position himself as I’m the crisis guy. I’m the one you call in a crisis. I’m here to take care of you. I’m here to make sure things are done properly. And don’t worry, I’ve got you Canada. I’ve got you. That’s his whole thing, right? And he makes sure to lean into that character to lean into that positioning even more positioning even more in this question period. Well, you don’t know what the difference between a main estimate and a budget is. So, how about you pipe down, sir, over there, and I’ll take care of the real business. And that’s how he did it. And it’s this is how it works, right? Things are super partisan right now. Super things are really wild between the left and the right. So, the liberals ran with this. They’re like, “Well, yeah, he made him look stupid.” And well, the conservatives posted this and said, “This guy, for real, did he really just say that we know how to grow economy grow an economy without spending money even though he’s asking for half trillion dollars in spending?” Okay. All right. This is fun. This is wild. And so this comes back down to how is this all going to move forward right now? It’s who’s going to blink first? I said it yesterday. This could on the very, very slim chance this could lead to an election. Don’t think it will though. However, it will force a budget to come forward. And likely what’s going to happen is liberals, they have a budget prepared. They have it in the back pocket if they need to use it. They just don’t want to for whatever reason. They have their reasons that they just don’t want to. A lot of it is going to come down to lack of transparency and they prefer to obscure everything because really one or two things are going to happen here. There are two scenarios that are more likely to happen. One, we actually get a budget that they probably are setting on. They just don’t want to show it. Or number two, they decide to be like, “Okay, fine. We don’t need the half a trillion dollar in spending. We’re just going to just go into the summertime and we’re not going to bother tableling and give you an option to vote this down.” That is one of the two things are going to happen here. Mark Carney knows this and as I said, this was all a big flex by the minority parliament saying, “I know you’ve been talking about having a mandate. I know you say that you’re the one who’s in control here. I know you’re the one who you would love to have control. We know that you’ve been telling your followers that you’re in control.” Well, Parl is going to remind you how much control you actually have. And it’s well, not a whole lot. It’s not as much as you think you do. And this was Mark Carney. This was his behavior here was trying to flex back. He’s saying, “Yeah, I acknowledge the whole vote y’all had yesterday, that whole small little thing, but we’re still going to focus on Canadians. We’re going to make sure they’re taken care of. We don’t need the money.” But but like he’s just trying to be a tough guy, trying to flex back. And really right now, it’s about who’s going to blank first. So, we’ll see where this all ends up going. Into our second topic, though. MPs question irregularities. Elections Canada must face parliamentary scrutiny for balloting irregularities, including random poll closures. Blockquite MP said yesterday, chief electoral officer Stefane Perau has apologized but failed to explain why voters in one writing were left standing outside polling stations. We are demanding transparency from elections Canada block MP Sebastian Lemier said in a statement it should be accountable to voters. Electoral officer Perau on April 30th confirmed random and unexplained poll closures in one northern Quebec writing. I deeply regret some electors in Nunvok were not able to cast their vote, said Perau. To them I apologize. The agency has yet to disclose the findings of any investigation into the reg irregularities. How many polling stations were unable to open? Asked MP Laneir. Where did this occur and how for how long? How many citizens were blocked from voting? Elections Canada must disclose all this information. MPs have complained of other election irregularities. The block has filed the Quebec Superior Court challenge to force a bi-election in terabon, Quebec, where Elections Canada acknowledged it failed to process valid mailin ballots. Liberals run the writing by one vote. So right now the block cave choir flexing their muscles like obviously they want to get as many seats in the house as possible but there was a lot of as I said irregularities in the election what was really going on what was happening and it’s kind of just been thrown under the rug like don’t worry about that don’t ask about that there’s even some creators on this platform who’ve said if anyone questions the election oh man they might be funded by Russia it’s gotten so bad that on all levels on all sides whether it be YouTube creators whether it be liberal whether it be even some conservatives saying don’t question elections Canada you can’t do it not allowed even though there was a lot of funny business that have been happening and the blockade acquire making it very well known like hey what the heck actually happened here we need clarity and we need to get this done and sorted properly but this is the thing is you always have to be suspicious of when you see weird stuff like we saw happen in this election with some of these riotings when the weird stuff starts going on and you start questioning and the other side who wants says, “Don’t you shouldn’t even bother questioning it.” Then you should question it even further. Cuz Liberal MP Kevin Lamaro said yesterday, “Elections Canada should not be criticized.” He said, “I have absolute 100% full confidence in Elections Canada. I don’t think any of us do a favor if we start attacking Elections Canada,” said Lamaro. Elections Canada has my full support. There are no parliamentary committees devoted entirely to overseeing fair elections. Critics earlier sought regular scrutiny following 2015 disclosures that 112,000 legal voters were on the National Register of Electors. It should almost be a routine habit to have these elections postmortem investigations. Then Senator Linda from said at the time there is no supervisory body right now. Elections Canada investigates itself. They need outside scrutiny. And Senator Linda from is completely right. We have senators who are like what the heck has been going on? We need to look into overseeing our elections Canada. We need outside scrutiny. We have block saying, “Can we figure what’s going on with these writings, please? We have clear mistakes that h took place in the last election and we got to take it to the Quebec sup Supreme Court to figure this out.” Okay. Elections Canada saying it’s just kind of moving on. And then you have Liberal MP Lamaro saying we shouldn’t even question Elections Canada. They are gods. They don’t make any mistakes. We should leave it alone. That, my friends, is enough signs that they’re saying that this needs to be investigated strongly. Our elections have been getting weirder every year. It said here there’s a 2015 disclosure of that 112,000 illegal voters were in the registry system. That was in 2015. In 2019 was a semi normal election. Then 2021 got weird with all the foreign interference that took place. And then 2025 was 10x what 2021 was. And when all the funny funny business took place and it took weeks and weeks for specific writings to finally come to a result and we had stuff like this happening in Quebec and then we’re being told don’t question it. My friends, our democracy is a very fa fragile one and it’s something that is worth fighting for and fighting through the people who tell you not to question it because it’s a it’s a system run by humans. And guess what? Humans do make mistakes. So, it should be incumbent upon all of us to question what happened, what took place, and make sure the right thing happens. And yes, a bi-election should be taking place in Tarabone, and we will continue to follow up on that exact story. But anyways, have yourselves a good one. I’m out.
