(00:00) Mark Carney defending the indefensible hi I’m Brian Lily political columnist for the Toronto Sun liberal leader Mark Carney was having a pretty good run in this election but the last few days have been derailed over comments made by one of his candidates liberal MP and liberal candidate Paul Chang who represents Markham Unionville and is trying to win the writing again for the party encouraged people to go out and kidnap Conservative candidate for Don Valley North Joe Tay yeah he said that there was a bounty out on T had by officials
(00:31) in Hong Kong 1 million Hong Kong dollars and you could go and collect that if you would take him down to the Chinese Consulate in Toronto and hand them over that’s effectively advocating for someone to be kidnapped it’s been denounced by the conservatives it’s been denounced by NDP leader jug meet sing by Jenny Quan a new democrat MP who was a target of foreign interference dozens and dozens of Civil Society groups of representing Chinese Canadians have denounced this and said that Mr changen can no longer be the liberal candidate
(01:01) he should be fired but Mark Carney he sees things differently the comments uh were deeply offensive um Terri this is a terrible lapse of judgment by Mr chck he has apolog apologized for those comments he uh he has apologized directly now to uh uh the person uh that he mentioned uh apologize directly to him yesterday I’ve spoken to Mr Jack um uh as well over the course of the weekend um understand his position now at his news conference in vaugh just north of Toronto what did Carney do he was asked time and time
(01:40) again about you know this issue every question in English that was put to him was about NP chain and whether he should be allowed to stay in and Carney eventually started channeling Justin Trudeau telling is all it’s a teachable moment I view this as a teachable moment it re underscores the respect with which we treat human rights uh in this country the differences between Canadian Society um and other countries yes I guess we can all learn not to encourage people to H kidnap a Canadian Citizen and hand them
(02:15) over to a hostile foreign government look that that should just exclude you from being in Parliament in fact it might even result in a criminal investigation potentially charges against Mr chain because people are pointing to several different areas of the criminal code and other acts passed by Parliament that he may be in violation of conservative leader Pier PV meanwhile on the East Coast being asked to react to carne’s defense of Chang well it is a teachable moment it teaches us that Mark Carney will never stand up
(02:47) for Canada he is keeping on a liberal candidate who said that people should turn over the Conservative candidate to a bounty by the Chinese government which wants to kill him the Chinese government wants to literally kill Joe T because he’s a political dissident and this candidate said that that should happen this is a major hiccup for the liberal campaign it’s derailed their messaging right now the the Liberals are defending as I said the indefensible they just wanted to you know have a very easy ride in this campaign talk about
(03:24) Donald Trump and tariffs as much as possible talk about other issues as little as possible because the more we talk about something else the more likely the conservatives are to retake the lead win the election what this chain issue shows as is that foreign interference by China is still a major problem for us includ especially especially with the Liberal Party chain was paring Communist Party of China talking points this is not something we should be accepting in our politics and yet it has become so common place that
(03:56) the Liberals are willing to look the other way at least for now we’ll see if lasts let me know what you think drop a comment down below share this on social media and don’t forget to subscribe to our Channel [Music]
